One of the topics that tends to give human resource professionals heartburn is on-the-job romance. When relationships go sour, the best case scenario is usually decreased morale and productivity. And the worse case scenario? Sexual harassment litigation. Even when relationships thrive, there may be concerns about favoritism or, for the couple that engages in PDA at work, creating a hostile work environment for other employees.

Here’s an article about the topic, with some information and guidelines for workplace dating. I’m not so sure about the last guideline (“Have Fun”), which talks about the positive effect of workplace dating from one person’s perspective. Sure, there are potential benefits. But from what we’ve seen and read, the risks far outweigh the benefits, to employees and especially to employers.
