FAQs regarding In-Person Training

Below are frequently asked questions about my in-person trainings, as well as questions about in-person versus online sexual harassment prevention training.

A:  My in-person training is affordable and effective, both of which make it an excellent value.  My fees are much closer to online sexual harassment prevention (SHP) training than most people would think.

Why does it matter whether SHP training is effective?  If your company is going to spend money on SHP training, your company might as well get something out of it.  Effective SHP training reinforces appropriate business conduct and reduces harassing conduct; this in turn reduces a company's risk of being sued in a costly sexual harassment action.

What are the elements of effective SHP training?  It is not only accurate but 1) is customized; 2) is fun; and 3) allows participants to hear important feedback from their own coworkers.  These elements are all present in my in-person training.

  • Customized:  I customize all my trainings beforehand, but seeing participants allows me to further customize during the training itself.  For instance, based on participants' body language and facial expressions, I can tell whether the topic is an important one for the participants or whether further explanation is necessary.

  • Fun:  Very few people who have participated in online SHP training describe those trainings as "fun."  (Compare with participant comments from my trainings.)  In fact, they often describe those trainings as  "boring" and say they don't like feeling "chained" to their computer.  If your employees aren't paying attention to the training, they're not going to get anything from it, and so neither is your company.

  • Feedback from coworkers:  With self-paced online SHP training, participants miss out on a key benefit--the ability to learn from their co-workers as well as the trainer.  For instance, they can learn what their fellow co-workers believe to be harassing or inappropriate conduct and can clarify company-specific issues regarding reporting harassment claims.

A: Yes.  I have experience delivering both supervisor-only and company-wide sexual harassment prevention training.  While AB 1825 only requires training for "supervisors" (as defined under the statute and regulations), it is usually a good idea to train everyone at your company.  After all, a company can be legally liable for harassment by a non-supervisor.

If both supervisors and non-supervisors are trained together, I usually do a separate break-out session for the supervisors, although separate training sessions for each is also possible.
